Building a content creation engine

I’m going to break it down into:

  1. Writing Basics

  2. Idea Generation

  3. Viral Hook Strategy

  4. Post Strategies

(and with tools you can use to help)

The Basics of Writing Good Content

What makes good content?

I call it the CAV framework.

  • Consumable - one sentence paragraphs, simple formatting

  • Actionable - steps they can take in the next 24 hours

  • Valuable - “would someone pay $10 for this information?”

Harry Dry’s, a master copywriter, checklist for great copy:

  • Can I visualise it?

  • Can I falsify it?

  • Can nobody else say it?

Bonus tip → I would recommend putting your draft post through Claude and ask it to edit it to a 6th grade reading level.

How to Generate Killer Ideas

I’ll give you 3 different methods which I all use and all work.

Method #1: Build a creator analysis spreadsheet → (previous email) https://www.foundersteroids.xyz/p/get-viral-content-ideas-seconds-using-ai

Method #2: Globe Dot Explorer (thanks to Bray Jaks for this!)

  1. Before searching, define a broad topic related to your industry (e.g., "AI in marketing" or "Automation for solopreneurs")

  2. Start with Default mode for a broad overview, and then switch to Turbo or Pro Research for deeper insights once you’ve identified an area of interest.

  3. As you discover valuable content ideas, use bookmark them to save them and revisit when you’re ready to create content. (you can even create different folders)

  4. After gathering key insights, decide how to best deliver the content based on your audience’s preferences.

Method #3: Platform Transfer

I recently used this by taking something from LinkedIn, posting it on twitter and it got 25k+ views.

  1. Find a top creator in your industry but on a different platform to what you post on (e.g X, LinkedIn, Email Newsletter)

  2. Look at top performing posts (if possible) and select one

  3. Then re-write the post and ideally add your own step, tool or takeaway to the post

  4. Post onto a different platform where it hasn’t been posted, once something has gone viral once, it can go viral again.

Check out my new podcast!

Every episode I speak to another successful agency owner and deep dive on how they did it. The first 2 are out on Youtube now

There’s tons of value in the episodes and I also appreciate any feedback.

STOP everyone from scrolling with hooks

There are 2 main goals you're looking to achieve with a hook:

  1. Get the reader to stop scrolling

  2. Get the reader to click to read more

If you can do those, your job is done.

There’s 3 core emotions that are evoked in social media hooks:

  1. Desire - e.g “This is how I generated $121,034 with my agency last month”

  2. Curiousity - e.g “The secret outreach strategy that you’ve probably never heard of”

  3. Fear - e.g “My 10 biggest regrets as a 40 year old prisoner”

I have a library of 50 hook templates and examples here.

6 proven ways to write an engaging first sentence:

  • Open with 1 strong, declarative sentence.

  • Open with a thought-provoking question.

  • Open with a controversial opinion.

  • Open with a moment in time.

  • Open with a vulnerable statement.

  • Open with a weird, unique insight.

Typically, on X you can make stronger hooks with bigger claims than on LinkedIn.

Top-performing post strategies RIGHT NOW

  • List of tools or creators (you can directly tag them in X/LinkedIn and if they engage it will further push the post)

  • Polls with a CTA to email list in P.S line (LinkedIn only)

  • Before/After story post (e.g 2020: {situation}, 2024: situation)

  • Results from a test (e.g this is what 1000 new followers did to my agency or I tried {thing} for 30 days)

  • Well-known case study breakdown (breaking down specific strategy from a famous company or person)

  • Controversial opinion (hot take or harsh truth, then pushing readers to give thoughts in comments)

5 algorithm features to take advantage of:

  1. If today's post does well, tomorrow's post will do better and yesterday's post will grow. (LinkedIn)

  2. If you connect with someone, they preferentially see your content. (LinkedIn)

  3. If you're active on LinkedIn or Twitter (engagements), your posts perform better.

  4. If your post gets comments from people who don't usually comment on your posts, your post performs better

  5. If you post about the same topic consistently, you'll grow faster

  6. The more time people spend on your posts, the better it performs, it’s called “Dwell time”
